Brays Road Upgrade, Murrumba Downs, QLD

The Moreton Bay Rail project will deliver a 14km dual-track passenger rail line between Lawnton and Kippa-Ring with six new rail stations. The project costing $988 million was funded by the Australian Federal and the Qld State governments and the Moreton Bay Regional Council. To facilitate the traffic flows around the new stations, road widening to four lanes, new median strip, U-turn facility and traffic lights were installed.

Project Design Brief

This road upgrade produced some super-elevations as part of the carriageway design. Designers wanted to ensure all surface water runoff was immediately captured on the super-elevations eliminating the possibility of runoff beyond the median strip. A heavy duty continuous capture drainage system was chosen as the most effective method to ensure all surface water would be captured immediately.

ACO's Solution

  • TraffikDrain TD200 with Hi-Flo grates
  • ACO Technical Service Department assisted designers with hydraulic data of the TraffikDrain system and also advised how far apart to space gully pits

Benefits

  • The large openings of the Hi-Flo grate ensure water runoff is immediately captured into the channel system
  • Anti-shunt lugs ensure grates are secure and cannot be dislodged by excessive wheel movements and breaking
